    Online Casinos in Austria

Online gambling in Austria sits in a legal grey area, and that is exactly why a second look pays off. On this page you will find the best online casinos for players in Austria, ranked by the Conly Score. For every operator we checked the licence in the regulator's register and read the terms and conditions for withdrawal limits, fees and bonus traps. A word of honesty up front: apart from win2day, the online platform of the state-owned Austrian Lotteries, no online casino holds an Austrian licence. Every operator on our list works with a foreign licence, for example from Malta, the UK or Curaçao, and therefore operates outside Austria's state gambling monopoly.

New Online Casinos 2026: Fresh Operators at a Glance

A new online casino launches somewhere almost every week, and many of them offer especially large bonuses at launch. A launch gets interesting when it does something better than the established brands: fairer bonus terms, a cleaner lobby, faster withdrawals or a fresh licence from a strict regulator. At the same time, new operators have no track record that shows how they handle withdrawals and complaints.

We review new online casinos regularly. Once one reaches 7.4 points, we add it to the top list above. Until then, a proven online casino from our comparison is the safer choice, especially if you are playing at a casino for the first time.

How We Check and Rate Online Casinos

We do not run classic casino tests with our own deposits. Conly is a casino search engine: we match every licence against the regulator's public register, read the full T&Cs with an AI analysis and turn the verified facts into the Conly Score. Behind the score are the Conly team and a data engine that queries the registers regularly and stores every check with a date.

85% of the score comes from these facts and 15% from Trustpilot reviews. Five areas are included, weighted differently:

    AreaWeightWhat counts
Payouts & fees3Withdrawal time per the T&Cs, fees
Reliability & licence3Licence strength, T&C analysis, casino age
Bonus fairness2Wagering, sticky or not, max bet, win cap, deadline
Games & payments1Studio quality, range of payment methods
Support & player protection1Deposit limits, self-exclusion and other tools

From 7.4 points a casino gets the Play verdict, between 5.0 and 7.3 Caution, and below that Avoid. We do not treat missing data as bad, but it does hold the score back so that thin data cannot produce top results.

For licences, we distinguish by the protection they give you in a dispute. The Malta Gaming Authority, the UKGC and the Estonian regulator require binding dispute resolution. Kahnawake and Alderney supervise operators but give you less leverage. Curaçao has issued its own licences since its reform, and Anjouan is more of a registration.

Important for Austria: the score rates the online casino, not its legal status in your country. We check separately whether an operator holds an Austrian licence. Live chat, apps and measured withdrawal times are not part of the score. Casinos that pay us commission still end up at Avoid if the facts say so.

What We Pay Special Attention To: Our Rating Criteria

    • Valid licence: without a valid licence the score drops straight to 0.0, and our trust check also covers transparent T&Cs, a privacy policy and a legal notice.
    • Fair games: we rate studio quality, because major providers have their random number generators tested by independent labs.
    • Clear bonus terms: wagering, max bet, win cap and deadline must be stated in the T&Cs, otherwise points are deducted.
    • Payment methods: the score counts the range of options. For Austria we also tell you whether paysafecard and EPS are available.
    • Withdrawal time: we take the promised time and the pending period from the T&Cs, along with fees and limits.
    • Mobile use: apps are not part of the score, but we tell you if there is one.
    • Player protection: deposit limits, loss limits and self-exclusion earn points.
    • Customer service: live chat is not part of the score. If it is missing, we still tell you.

Is Online Gambling Legal in Austria?

In Austria, online casinos, lotteries and online poker fall under the Gambling Act (Glücksspielgesetz, GSpG) and a state monopoly. The only licence for online casinos is held by Österreichische Lotterien GmbH (Austrian Lotteries) with its brand win2day, supervised by the Federal Ministry of Finance. The licence runs until 2027. Sports betting is regulated separately and licensed by the individual federal states.

All other online casinos that accept players from Austria hold a licence from abroad, for example from Malta, the UK or Curaçao. This means they are not legally offered in Austria. For you as a player, however, this is not a criminal matter: under current law, the penalties of the GSpG target operators and advertisers, not players.

In practice, the grey area means something else. In a dispute, only the foreign regulator can help you, and Austria is preparing to block websites and payments to unlicensed operators. Advertising such gambling can be fined up to €22,000.

On the other hand, Austrian courts have in many cases awarded players refunds of their losses at offshore operators, because the contracts are considered void. Whether that works in your case is something only a lawyer can tell you. Players in Austria should look closely at offers from litigation funders before signing anything.

win2day vs. International Online Casinos: What Is the Difference?

    win2dayInternational online casinos
Legal statusthe only licence in Austriaforeign licence, outside the monopoly
Game selectionsmaller, new slots arrive laterlarge selection, often 40 to over 150 studios
Bonusessmall and rarewelcome bonus, free spins, cashback
Payout ratescheck the RTP in the game infocheck the RTP in the game info, varies by casino
DisputesAustrian authorities and courtsonly the regulator in the licensing country
PaymentAustrian methods including EPSpaysafecard almost always, EPS rarely

The answer is clear. Among Austrian online casinos, win2day is the only one with a licence. It is operated by Österreichische Lotterien GmbH.

If you want maximum legal certainty, play there. If you want more choice and bigger bonuses, go with an international operator and accept weaker legal protection in return. In that case, it should at least be a casino with a strong licence such as MGA or UKGC.

Taxes on Gambling Winnings in Austria

Gambling winnings are tax-free for private individuals in Austria (as of October 2026). This applies to win2day as well as to winnings from abroad, and you do not have to declare them in your tax return.

At win2day the operator pays the gambling levy, so you receive your full winnings. Things can look different if you play so regularly and systematically that the tax office treats it as income, for example in professional poker. For larger amounts, a quick chat with a tax advisor is worth it.

How to Spot Safe and Trustworthy Online Casinos

You can recognise trustworthy online casinos by things you can check yourself, even without expert knowledge. A logo in the footer is not enough.

Check the licence. The footer must name the regulator and the licence number. For the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) you look up the number in the public register at authorisation.mga.org.mt, and for the UK Gambling Commission in its Public Register. Since its reform, the Curaçao Gaming Authority also publishes a list of new licensees. If the number is not listed there or belongs to a different company, that is a clear red flag.

Fair games. The random number generators of reputable games are tested by independent labs. Well-known names are eCOGRA (eCommerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance) and iTech Labs. Many casinos link their certificates in the footer.

Secure transactions. You can recognise SSL encryption by the padlock in the address bar. Without it, do not enter any data. Secure payment methods such as paysafecard or Trustly also do not pass your card details on to the casino.

Transparent T&Cs and privacy. Bonus terms, withdrawal limits and fees must be stated in English, or at least clearly. There should also be a privacy policy and a legal notice with the company name and address.

Player protection. Deposit limits, loss limits and self-exclusion show that an online casino takes its regulator's rules seriously. Trustworthy online casinos put these tools in plain sight in the account settings. More on this in the section on responsible gambling.

    Online Casinos You Should Avoid

The trust criteria above apply to all online casinos. This section covers the red flags that mean you should not even open an account:

    • No licence or a fake one: the number is missing, is not in any register or belongs to a different company. At Conly this leads straight to 0.0 points.
    • Withheld withdrawals: many complaints about withdrawals stuck for weeks, or new documents constantly requested before payout.
    • Predatory bonus terms: 60x wagering or more, win caps that make the bonus worthless, or rules that let the casino void winnings for "irregular play" without saying what that means.
    • No player protection: neither a deposit limit nor self-exclusion.
    • No identifiable operator: no company name, no address, no way to get in touch other than a form.

The consequences for you are always the same. If things go wrong, you do not get your money, and there is no regulator you could complain to. That is why casinos with the Avoid verdict never appear in our recommendations.

Casino Bonus Offers for Players in Austria

Almost every international online casino attracts new players with a bonus. The main types:

    • Welcome bonus: aimed at new players. The casino doubles your first deposit, often 100% up to a maximum amount. Larger packages are spread over three or four deposits.
    • No deposit bonus and free spins: a small starting balance or free spins right after sign-up. More on this in the next section.
    • Free play: play money for a fixed time, and you can keep the winnings under certain conditions.
    • Reload bonus: a deposit bonus for existing customers, often at weekends.
    • Cashback: part of your losses comes back, and weekly cashback often has no or low wagering.
    • High roller bonus: larger bonus amounts for big deposits, usually with stricter limits.
    • Seasonal promotions: Advent calendars, New Year's Eve free spins or tournaments around Easter.

On top of that come VIP and loyalty programmes that collect points for every bet and later unlock cashback or better limits.

The deciding factor for any online casino bonus is the wagering requirement. It tells you how many times you have to bet the bonus (or bonus plus deposit) before you can withdraw winnings.

A fair value is between 20x and 35x. Experienced players know that from 60x it becomes predatory, because you are very likely to lose the bonus before you have wagered it through. Among our top picks, the range goes from 1x at Lataamo to 30x at the Condor casinos and up to 60x for follow-up bonuses.

Three more points matter just as much. A sticky bonus stays in your account and is deducted when you withdraw. A non-sticky bonus lets you play through and withdraw your deposit first.

The max bet (usually €4 to €5 per spin) applies while the bonus is active, and the deadline decides how much time you have. At Lataamo it is 24 hours, at most others 30 days.

No Deposit Casinos and Free Bonuses: What Is Behind Them?

A no deposit bonus sounds like free money, but it is mainly a test for both you and the casino. You get a few free spins or a small balance, play with it and may keep the winnings only up to a cap. At 24Bettle this cap is €20, at Casino Sieger €25 and at Will's Casino €50.

Look for three things in the T&Cs: the win cap, the wagering requirement on free spin winnings and a possible mandatory deposit for verification. At 24Bettle, for example, you have to wager this deposit 10x. So you can play for free this way, but big wins remain the exception.

Popular Casino Games at a Glance

The casino games in an online casino's lobby fall into three big groups: slots, classic table games and the live casino with real dealers. One figure applies to all of them, and you should know it: the RTP (return to player).

It shows what percentage of all bets a game pays back over a very large number of rounds. A slot with 96% RTP keeps 4% on average. The value applies to millions of spins, not to your next hour of play.

Slot Machines: Understanding RTP and Winning Chances

Slots are the largest group in every online casino and work especially well on mobile. You set your bet, spin, and a random number generator decides the result.

An RTP of 96% or higher is considered good. You will find it in the game info, usually behind the "i" icon. Some casinos run the same slot with a lower RTP version, so it is worth a look.

Volatility matters almost as much. Low-volatility online slots pay small amounts often, high-volatility ones pay rarely but bigger.

Classics such as Book of Ra from Novomatic, the provider based in Gumpoldskirchen near Vienna, and Book of Dead are rather high volatility, as is Gates of Olympus from Pragmatic Play.

If you chase progressive jackpots, keep in mind that their base RTP is often lower, because part of every bet goes into the pot.

Some casinos also run slot tournaments. At 20Bet and 24Bettle, for example, you will find Pragmatic Play's Drops & Wins.

    Roulette, Blackjack and Table Games

Every casino offers roulette, blackjack and baccarat as digital versions. The biggest difference is the house edge. In blackjack it is around 0.5% with basic strategy, in European roulette with a single zero 2.7%. American roulette with a double zero is noticeably more expensive.

There is no roulette strategy that beats the house edge. Systems such as doubling up after a loss only change when you lose. Video poker is a niche for players who like to make their own decisions.

If you would rather play at a real table, you will find that in the live section.

Live Casino Games: The Real Casino Feeling at Home

In a live casino, a real live dealer sits in a studio and you play along via video stream. The cards are really shuffled and the ball really rolls. Almost all of our top picks source their live dealer games from Evolution, plus studios such as Pragmatic Play Live.

Popular choices are live roulette, live blackjack and game shows like Crazy Time. When choosing a table, three things matter: a smooth HD stream, enough tables so you do not have to wait for a free seat, and betting limits that fit your budget.

Payment Methods and Fast Withdrawals at Online Casinos

At the cashier, one question matters most for players in Austria: is paysafecard available? Among our top picks it almost always is, only Lataamo works exclusively with Trustly. The key methods at a glance:

    PayPalinstanta few hoursnone

Worth noting: PayPal is not available at any of our recommended online casinos, EPS only at Will's Casino, and Apple Pay at Will's Casino and N1Casino. This is down to the licences, because PayPal and Austrian banks usually only work with operators from certain countries.

Crypto payments, on the other hand, are possible at most of them. If you use crypto, factor in network fees and price swings. Rapid Transfer and Trustly are fast options via online banking.

In practice, "instant withdrawal" rarely means instant. The time in the T&Cs is the maximum processing time, and it is often preceded by a pending period of 24 to 48 hours. After that it depends on the method: e-wallets usually arrive the same day, cards take 1 to 3 working days, and bank transfers up to 6 banking days. On our list, fast withdrawals are offered by Lataamo (one hour per the T&Cs) and the Condor casinos (12 hours).

The most common reason for delays is verification (KYC). Before your first withdrawal you must prove your identity, usually with an ID and proof of address such as a utility bill, sometimes also with proof of your payment method. Regulators require this to prevent money laundering and gambling by minors. It is best to upload your documents right after signing up, so your first withdrawal does not have to wait.

Also check the limits: minimum withdrawals at our top picks range from €10 to €30, and maximum amounts from €2,000 to €40,000 per month.

Mobile Casinos and Apps for Players in Austria

According to Conly, none of our recommended online casinos has its own casino app. You play in your phone's browser, and that works at all of them without a download. You can recognise a good mobile casino by a lobby that adapts to the small screen, large buttons, and a cashier and verification process that also work on mobile.

There is a reason why there are hardly any apps. Google Play and the App Store only allow real money casinos in certain countries and only from operators licensed there. That is why you usually will not find offshore casinos without an Austrian licence there.

If an "app" does show up as a download file on a website, be careful. For mobile use, a bookmark on your home screen is all you need.

Before your first bet, a quick check is worthwhile: do your favourite games run on mobile, does the lobby load quickly, and is the live stream stable on mobile data? Mobile casinos with a heavy lobby will otherwise drain your battery and data allowance.

Signing Up at an Online Casino: Step by Step

This is how registration works at almost every online casino that accepts players from Austria:

    1. Choose a licensed online casino: ideally one from our comparison, with a verified licence and without Austria on its restricted list.
    2. Fill in the form: name, date of birth, address, email and password. Enter your real details, otherwise your withdrawal will fail later.
    3. Confirm your email: click the link in the confirmation email.
    4. Complete verification (KYC): upload your ID and proof of address. Why this is necessary is explained in the section on payment methods.
    5. Fund your account: choose a method and enter the amount. The minimum deposit at our top picks is usually €10, and €20 at N1Casino.
    6. Activate the welcome bonus: read the terms first. If they do not suit you, play without a bonus.

    Responsible Gambling: Protection and Support

Gambling can be addictive. That is why responsible gambling is part of every casino visit, not just when things get tight. Reputable casinos give you tools for this, which you will find in your account settings:

    • Deposit limit: sets how much you can add per day, week or month.
    • Loss and wager limit: caps how much you can lose or bet.
    • Session limit and reality check: the casino regularly reminds you how long you have been playing.
    • Time-out (cooling-off): locks your account for days or weeks.
    • Self-exclusion: excludes you for months or permanently.

Austria currently has no national exclusion register that applies to all international operators. A self-exclusion therefore only applies at the casino where you set it. If you play with several operators, you have to exclude yourself at each one separately. Which tools a casino offers is also one of our trust criteria, as described above.

Responsible gambling also means never playing to win back losses or pay off debts. Only bet money you can afford to lose.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I be blocked at international casinos as a player from Austria?

Yes. A casino can close your account under its T&Cs, for example if it suspects bonus abuse, duplicate accounts or false details. An operator can also add Austria to its restricted list at any time. You can usually still withdraw your balance in that case, but if fraud is suspected, the casino may withhold winnings.

What happens to my balance if an online casino shuts down?

That depends on the licence. Online casinos licensed by regulators such as the MGA must keep player funds separate from company assets. With weak licences this protection often does not exist. So do not leave large amounts sitting in your account.

Is there a withdrawal cap for players from Austria?

Not specifically for Austria, but every online casino has its own limits. Among our top picks they range from €2,000 per month at Will's Casino to €40,000 per month at 20Bet. Some operators pay out larger wins in monthly instalments.

Can I open a casino account without a credit card?

First write to customer service and keep the reply. If that does not help, contact the licensing regulator or the dispute resolution service named in the T&Cs. With the MGA, you do this via a form on its website. With licences from Anjouan or Tobique, your chances are slim.

How do I file a complaint against an online casino?

First write to customer service and keep the reply. If that does not help, contact the licensing regulator or the dispute resolution service named in the T&Cs. With the MGA, you do this via a form on its website. With licences from Anjouan or Tobique, your chances are slim.

Can I have several casino accounts at the same time?

At different casinos, yes; at the same casino, no. Almost all T&Cs allow only one account per person, household or payment method. If you open a second account, you risk having all your winnings voided.

Can winnings from no deposit bonuses really be withdrawn?

Yes, but only up to the win cap and only after meeting the wagering. Among our top picks, these caps range from €20 to €50. How this works in detail is explained in the section on no deposit bonuses.
